Video Editor For Stable Income

Sell Yourself Short With Shorts

Video Editing

We all know what video editing is, and it’s probably the most common job in the social media niche.

There are so many opportunities on the internet for people to be a video editor.

Old school video editors using Sony Vegas now have to learn new editing software, and here’s the thing with new technology, people don’t want to learn.

Everyday new tech is developed, and with Tiktok and Youtube shorts, there are program specific to vertical content, just because software company are niching down to save money on marketing.

If you’re an expert at a specific video editor, you can make stable income.

Video Editor Career Path

Your path is slim, and you will meet a dead end. Video editors are always strife with replaceability.

Anyone can be a editor, the software is not hard to learn, I can barely deal with software and even I can do video editing.

Your chance of getting replaced is higher than a weather balloon, which is why your pricing as a video editor has to be dirt low.

Pricing

I would expect somewhere between 5-50 dollars per a short video, you can charge by the hour, but, the thing with hourly charging, content producers won’t be paying that, especially during their infant stages.

The pay is so low that I personally don’t know anyone that does it. I reside in California, where minimum wage average $15, no thanks to San Francisco government giving in to protest of people that don’t understand basic math and economics.

Thanks to them everything in California has to go up, otherwise people will work in SF and go over to a nearby city making double the minimum, despite having no qualifications.

On The Bright Side

The work is remote, I know people are aching to get a remote job as they’re getting harder to find. All the remote work are taken by the people that got jobs early, people from late millennial to boomer.

Only way to get a remote job nowadays is if you take a low paying job, like video editing, or you start your online business, Onlyfans count as strange as it sounds.

Get Lucky

If you’re really lucky, the person you’re editing for becomes famous, and has good work ethics, and compensate you properly you can be considered a expert editor.

yes, whether you’re an expert, should be based on what you can do as a video editor, but it’s more of a popularity contest. Editors that worked with famous youtubers can charged 60-100 an hour, even if they’re using old tech, that’s just life.

Saturated But So Is The work

You will not have to fret over saturation, work is saturated, the demand is greater than the supply.

I may not know anyone video editors, but I know plenty of people looking for them. Everyone is trying to be some kind of influencer, and you can satisfy that itch.

This is a strong argument for why being a video editor is better than being a influencer, because you can still be a influencer, and make money off of the situation.

How To Get Started

Pick one to specialize in, these are the most common ones

  • Adobe Premeire

  • Final Cut

  • Davinci

  • Capcut

  • Imovie

Just look into it and make sure it aligns with what you want to do. Capcut is suppose to be good for vertical shorts. Adobe is best for widescreen form videos.

Speaking of Capcut, a long time ago, I knew a guy that specialize in Capcut. The company decide to increase the pricing, making majority of it’s key feature premium and must pay.

My friend threw away 2 years of Capcut experience because of this price change. The price increase wasn’t that steep, it was just 19 a month.

If 19 dollars a month is too much for you, you need a job.

Build Your Portfolio

While building a portfolio, you need proof. Whatever you’re working on, take pictures, make sure you can some how finagle your existence into the work, and find some way to document the work as yours.

This is good practice, not only to prove that your work is yours, but in case if you ever work for someone that decides to skip out on paying you, you can roast them with receipts.

Many famous youtuber are accused of not paying their editors, and no charges ever occurred because editors didn’t document their work, so in a way this is a practice that kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Would I Do It

Generally no, I have no interest in video editing, it is a good way to find yourself a remote job, but I have different aspirations.

If I force myself to do this, I can make money, but I won’t be the best at what I do.

It is a good method to make money from home, although not as epic as being a affiliate marketer or Crypto trader, but it’s almost guaranteed income in a short amount of time.
