Threading Baseball Gloves While You Work
Money method selling baseball glove threading services
Threading baseball gloves is a mega rare skill. If you’ve ever joined a baseball league, do you know anyone that knows how to thread a glove? Everyone that I personally knew didn’t know how to thread a glove, because it’s a complicated process. I’ve met professionals that specialize in baseball gear, and even they doesn’t know how to thread a baseball glove.
So why is it a rare skill? Simply, no one has interest in glove weaving. It’s like basket weaving for men, but I would argue it’s more useful than a basket. The thing is, how well a person weave a glove can make it feel like a 500 dollar glove.
When I started playing baseball, I bought a cheap glove at $129.99. The leather quality was not bad but it need to be broken in. This is a process to develop a glove that is suppose to fit your hand properly, and create a pocket deep and loose enough to retain a baseball in the pocket, my glove however was never broken in.
Everyone said my glove was trash, because it was cheap, that’s why it never formed to my hand. That is until one day, I pulled out all the thread and re-threaded the damn thing while cleaning the glove, and learned that the laces were too tight. After I modified the glove to be looser with the help of a Lace kit, it broke in within a week and became the best left fielder I’ve ever been.
There was nothing wrong with the quality of my leather, the lacing quality was just bad, it’s a skill issue. So the idea of baseball glove threading became a thing, when I heard about a man that thread hockey gloves during dead time at work.
Now if you do plan on starting a baseball glove knitting side hustle I would suggest Shopify over Squarespace since it’s a better medium for retail. If you want to help your friends make additional income refer them to my website, I give information on side gigs that can scale to millions.
