Painting Homes
Visualize Memories
Drawing Homes
You know there’s a demand for painting people’s homes? Homes are something that people have a sentimental value to. They dedicate their whole lives to purchasing one, so it’s their everything.
It’s almost a family to them, Whenever I feel homesick on a long vacation, I would think of family and my house and specifically my kitchen. There is just value to it, emotionally speaking.
So you can imagine people paying artists decent money for a high quality picture of their homes.
People Will Pay For Memories
It’s true, memories are irreplaceable. people like it in all forms, they don’t really care too much about paying premium for a picture, as long as they can fantasize that art bringing them nostalgia.
You may think, why not just take a picture? Well pictures are great, it’s just not as unique as a hand-drawn art. It’s brings up the logical and emotional argument.
Logic Vs Emotion
You can be logical with work and business, but what if you’re logical with your personal life. For example logically speaking, relationships are technically meaningless. It’s a strain on time and money.
So with the law of reasoning, one should never develop personal relationships, because it’s counter-intuitive to productivity, unless it’s business related.
Drawing Is Better Sometimes
Having a drawing is sometimes better, the endeavors involved with finding a specific painter to do you favorite form of painting is more memories.
The hassle is kind of worth it, as long as it’s a journey, and not some hardship like waiting in line for a Disney ride.
Personally I would pay someone to draw a picture of me and my loved one on a Xerox paper for a thousand dollars, but it has to be really good.
Just having a visualization of fond memories with it’s little flaws are sometimes really better than a picture.
Limitations
You have to be good, you have to be a top level artist in order to have any sales. Simply said people will not buy shitty art for no reason.
The million dollar art that you see for sale are artists that are dead, usually from suicide, not something someone should do for their side hustle.
Another reason for overpriced art is money laundering. Some guy robbed a bank, and have another guy release his super artistic work, and price tag it for 5 million dollars and the another guy buys it, and then they split the profit.
your chance of being a actor in Hollywood is higher than being the next Van Gogh. So just treat art as a side hustle for your well-being.
How To Look for Clients
You can showcase your work on Instagram, I don’t think there is any place that is better than Instagram when it comes to showing off your work.
Instagram is art central for people to show off their art, it’s also mostly used by women of all ages, and they consume art significantly more than men.
If you are marketing, you shouldn’t stick to one platform, you should have a back up platform incase Instagram does anything to ruin the platform.
Free And Sell
You don’t need to wait for client to come to you for work, you can just draw anything you like, and sell it on Etsy, or society6.
In the beginning you’re not going to have any trust, so it’s ideal to make your own art that you’re best at and just sell it through a marketplace, and overtime people will come to you for custom home paintings.
Pricing Model
This is variable, it varies on demand. You can charge based on size, or hours spent.
I would recommend charging for size of a art, because if you charge based on hour you will have some trouble.
Sometimes work will take a little longer than expected, because there are processes that we can’t think ahead for.
To mitigate that, it’s best to have your customers pay upfront, on a price that they can expect.
Why It’s Good
Drawing Is A side hustle that is actually flexible, you can do it almost anywhere, and anytime you are free.
I know people that would go to the most random places to paint, it can be at another person’s house, park, garage, the weirdest place I saw someone draw was at a school cafeteria, just some stranger coming in to a Elementary school to draw for work.
Would I Do It?
No, I simply don’t have the talent for it, i’m more of a novel writer, than a artist.
Now if you’re an artist at heart I would insist you start your dream of being a part-time artist, because no one knows if you will be successful, it’s just a matter of taking a shot.
