Being A Hired Writer

Writing For A Living

Writing is one of the most simplest form of work for creative people. Nothing can compare in simplicity, also with portable technology, you can write everywhere. Opportunities are everywhere, you can write in blogs, newspaper, newsletter, copywriting, email, and even spiritual writing, where you just guide their spirit to a different dimension via text.

Sell Yourself With Dignity

When choosing your niche you generally have to stick to your niche, I’ve seen writers panhandling for work they don’t specialize in. While looking for someone to write product description for me, on a ecommerce store, a blog writer approached me with her sales pitch. Telling me that she is a blog and article writer, she can and would be willing to learn a new skill to write product descriptions for me. Now speaking from a customer perspective, I thought what kind of worker this girl is? From that sales pitch, I think she’s a jack of all trade kind of person,

and has no respect for her specialty. Now let’s speak from a sports perspective. Tiger Woods is known to be as one of the best golf players in the world, each game he makes millions from sponsorship because they want to see the best do the best. Imagine if Tiger Woods decides to advertise himself as a basketball player, he has no experience but he’s willing to learn a new skill to play for the LA Lakers. You as a basketball team owner, do you think you will be turned off by that proposal? Ideally you should stick to the community you will thrive in, there should be no reason to jump to other niches, unless you are making no money from your own niche.

Snowballing Customers

How you gonna find your customers? It would be nice to show case your work, however starting off you don’t have any. You have to work from the bottom. I would recommend, I would recommend Upwork. You can look at youtubers prove that freelancing on Upwork is a great way to start. If you are working for a company make sure they don’t hire contractors through the medium you’re using, because employers are known for firing workers that makes additional income outside of the organization. While working for Upwork you can accumulate work to showoff your expertise. It would be best that you use Squarespace to

Pricing Model

Pricing can come to 2 forms, you have the hourly rate and the one time rate. I would recommend the one time rate where you charge based on how many words in the work. There are expert writers that charge $3,000 for half a page in a newspaper. however only the top level writers can charge that rate, so writing should be a side gig instead of a primary career choice.
