Glorious Plumbing

It is strange how much people will pay for plumbing services. A long time ago my family had a repeating problem where the pipes would get clogged, because our toilet had a weak flushing mechanism that didn’t push the water hard enough and material would get caught in the mineral buildup and clog our pipes.

We were desperate especially our grandfather, because he likes to perform at least seven bowel movements a day, so we got desperate and called any plumber we see on the newspaper. We found out the plumber was a sewer snake that robbed us good on the highway.

Every time this guy came he would charge my grandfather 300 dollars per an appearance like an celebrity. We thought he was going to do some amazing work and resolve our problem.

All this guy did was stick a motorized snake inside and twirl for 5 minutes, and voila pipe unclogged, and so did our 300 dollars. Now for 5 minutes of work that doesn’t justify it, even if he was a professional which we found out he was not.

California regulation dictates that you need a plumber license to perform a job that is worth more than 500 dollars, all this guy is his snake and he only does jobs where he can charge less than 500 dollars. We were desperate and plumbers are surprisingly rare, so the combination of those two elements made us believe we paid a normal price.

Now I’m not telling you to go pick up a snake and start scamming senior citizens, but you can’t deny that plumbing is a old service job, with a high demand, and low supply. I met a person on reddit that goes around with his snake and charge a reasonable 100 dollar an hour.
